This
class qualifies you to charter sailboats
for day sails. |
- Learn to Skipper and Sail a 30 to 38 foot Yacht, with a U.S. Coast Guard Licensed, A.S.A Certified Instructor. There are 3 to 6 students per class.
- Earn two ASA Certifications:
Basic Keelboat Sailing and Basic Coastal Cruising
- Learn on the boats YOU will be qualified to charter when you finish the course! Enjoy our privately-owned, cruise and race-equipped, meticulously maintained boats from the start.
- Acquire CONFIDENCE through our 100% hands-on training program: You will be at the helm, and handling sails, lines, and winches, on your very first lesson.
- Each day is a
NEW ADVENTURE, providing new scenery, wildlife and sightseeing as you sail out of MARINA del REY, Southern California Premier Boat Harbor, into the Pacific Ocean and Santa Monica Bay to Santa Monica, Malibu and Redondo Beach. We return to the harbor every night.
- Our exclusive
CONFIDENCE SAILING COURSE consists of FIVE modules, each ONE FULL DAY on the water from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, for a total of 35 HOURS, scheduled to fit you:
- One day each weekend for 5 weeks, or 5 consecutive days with a

This
class qualifies you to charter
sailboats
for trips to Catalina and beyond. |
- Cruise on a luxurious 36 to 47 foot Sailing Yacht for three days, to and around CATALINA or SANTA BARBARA Islands, with a US Coast Guard Licensed Skipper who is also an A.S.A Certified Instructor.
- Learn on a boat YOU would be proud to own! Enjoy one of our privately-owned, cruise and race-equipped, meticulously maintained boats. Your boat will have extensive electronics, a diesel engine, a hard-bottom (RIB) inflatable dinghy with an outboard motor, a roller furling genoa, rope-clutches and self-tailing winches, and an electric windlass to retrieve the anchor.
- You will have on board (and learn to operate) an inverter for 110V power, multiple battery banks, electric refrigeration, hot and cold running water with multiple water tanks, a propane stove with an oven and a solenoid, a propane BBQ, and a complete head system with holding tank, tankwatch and macerator.
- Acquire CONFIDENCE through our 100% hands-on training program: YOU will provision the boat, calculate the compass courses, use the electronics (GPS/Chartplotter, DEPTHSOUNDER, KNOTMETER, AUTOPILOT) to navigate to your destination, steer the boat, trim the sails, learn to use and care for the roller furling genoa, stand a watch, set an anchor, pick up a mooring, tow and use the Dinghy and Outboard, and learn to trouble-shoot the boat systems. Your Instructor will discuss night sailing, heavy weather, emergencies at sea, and attempt to pass on to you 20 years of Local Cruising Knowledge.
- Earn YOUR ASA Certification for Bareboat Chartering (ASA 104). Prerequisites: ASA. 101 & 103. Certification is optional.

| Spend a full 8 days cruising Santa Monica Bay and Santa Catalina Island. Live aboard, sail, tack, jibe, reef, navigate and anchor a 30’ to 40’ Sailing Yacht. Use the GPS and the AUTOPILOT, tow and operate a RIB dinghy and o/b, tie knots, and learn what you need to know to SKIPPER your own boat with CONFIDENCE! |
This is a combination of the 5 day and 3 day CONFIDENCE SAILING & CRUISING COURSES not including the
live-a-board option ($100 per day).
- The first five days, you will return to the harbor in the evening.
- On day 5 you will take the tests for ASA 101 and ASA 103.
- On Day 6 you are off to Catalina Island for 3 days for the ASA 104 Course. You and your Instructor will cover all the material in the CONFIDENCE SAILING & CRUISING COURSES (see 5 & 3 day Courses).
- You can obtain all three ASA certifications: Basic Keelboat Sailing, Basic Coastal Cruising, AND the Bareboat Chartering Standard.

This a home study program with testing at
Blue Pacific Facility.
You will learn to:
- Understand and interpret the chart symbols and conventions on U.S. nautical charts.
- Use tide and current tables.
- Convert courses and bearings between true, magnetic and compass.
- Plot a dead reckoning position on a chart using Speed, Time and Course.
- Determine a course to steer which takes into account known current and leeway (set and drift).
- Plot a chart position from terrestrial objects.
- Use techniques to chart a course of at least 20 miles and 3 course changes.

- Home study materials for ASA 105 Navigation standard will be shipped directly to you once you have signed up for the class. We suggest you book well in advance to allow plenty of time for study before arriving at the boat.
- The textbook for Advanced Coastal Cruising (ASA 106) is The Annapolis Book of Seamanship by John Rousmaniere. It can be purchased on-line or at almost any book or marine store. You will need to study the book thoroughly, well in advance of the class.
- Each of these classes offer exceptional opportunities to participate in more complex and challenging sailing adventures which will open the door to broader Sailing Horizons.

is teeming with wildlife.
